2019 GMC Terrain engine options
Do you want to know which engine options are available on the 2019 Terrain? There are three engine options in all, and we will go through each of them in great detail. Learn about all the 2019 GMC Terrain engine options here.
What is the standard engine for the 2019 GMC Terrain?
The Terrain is a powerful machine, and it proves it right away with its standard engine. Under the hood of this 5-seat SUV, you get a 1.5-liter turbocharged gas engine that can deliver up to 170 horsepower and 203 pound-feet of torque. This engine can tow up to 1,500 pounds too!
The 1.5-liter turbo engine is the standard option on most trims including the SL, SLE, and the SLT. This engine is mated to a smooth 9-speed automatic transmission. Not only is it smooth, it’s efficient.
With a front-wheel-drive configuration, it can get up to 26-city mpg and 30-highway mpg. With this engine, the SLE and the SLT are also available with all-wheel drive, and with AWD it gets 24-city mpg and 28-highway mpg.
Optional gas engine on the GMC Terrain
There is another gas engine available for the 2019 Terrain. It’s a 2.0-liter turbocharged gas option that comes standard on the Denali trim and is available on the SLE and SLT trims. This engine delivers 252 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque while providing up to 3,500 pounds of towing capability.
This engine is also impressively efficient. That’s partially because it is attached to the same 9-speed transmission that the 1.5-liter engine is attached to.
All Terrain configurations with the 2.0-liter engine are also available with either front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. The FWD versions get up to 22-city mpg and 28-highway mpg. The AWD variants get up to 21-city mpg and 26-highway mpg.
Does the 2019 GMC Terrain have a diesel?
If the gas engine options weren’t impressive enough for the Terrain, this GMC SUV also offers a diesel option. The diesel is actually a turbo diesel with 1.6 liters of displacement. It gives you 137-horsepower, but the impressive figure is its 240 pound-feet of torque. With this engine, you have 1,500 pounds of towing capability.
When it comes to efficiency, the diesel option puts up some impressive numbers. In front-wheel drive, it can get up to 28-city mpg and 39-highway mpg, and in AWD it barely loses any efficiency with 28-city mpg again and 38-highway mpg. This engine is available on the SLE and SLT trims.
