The 2017 Sierra HD is offering a new diesel engine this year: a next-generation 6.6L Duramax V8 turbo-diesel. If you’re driven or ridden in a past model-year Sierra HD equipped with the diesel V8, then you likely have a good idea of what to expect, though this new model is able to output even more power.

Features of the 2017 Sierra HD Diesel Engine
There has been additional improvements made to the new diesel engine in the Sierra HD. A lot of it gets kind of technical, but every new feature and improvement helps make this new engine what it is. Some of our favorite highlights of the new engine include: b20 bio-diesel compatibility, new actuated/electronically controlled turbocharging system, increased oil- and coolant-flow capacity, strong cylinder block and cylinder heads, and more.
New Hood Scoop on the 2017 Sierra HD
The new Sierra HD also features an all-new hood design, which will be used to help keep the engine and everything else running cool. The hood scoop is used to drive cold and dry air into the engine — helping to keep your performance numbers at peak. You’ll see a lot of benefit from the new hood scoop and diesel engine working together, especially when towing heavy trailers.
