Picnic locations in Oshkosh WI
Do you want to have a picnic? It’s a wonderful season for such a thing. Pack a great meal, invite your friends, loved ones, or just that special someone, and head to a great place in nature. But where are you going to go? That’s where we can help with our list of great picnic locations in Oshkosh, WI.
Located on the east side of Oshkosh, Menominee Park puts some distance between you and the hustle and bustle of downtown while planting you right on the shore of Lake Winnebago and the beautiful Millers Bay. There’s over a mile of coastline with shaded grassy areas and plenty of walking trails to walk off your picnic calories.
Opera House Square
The Opera House Square is more like a triangle, but we won’t begrudge it for that fact. It’s located right in downtown where there is plenty of free parking and a ton of local businesses and shops that you can take advantage of. If you go on Saturday morning, then you can fuel your picnic with the neighboring farmers market.
Winnebago County Park
This park is absolutely huge, and a majority of it consists of mowed open fields of grass and shade trees. You can drive around the loop and find a great place to picnic. There’s even a beach, outdoor exercise equipment, walking trails, and if you want to bring your favorite barker, there’s a free dog park on site with plenty of room to roam.
We add this park to the list with a big caveat. It is currently undergoing major renovations as of 2018. There are still some areas that you can picnic in, but most of the scenery is being revised. When it reopens, it will be better than ever with ponds, paths, and bridges. For the time being, you can consider neighboring Quarry Park.
What to bring on a Picnic?
Obviously, you’ll want to bring good company and good food, but there are a few other things that you don’t want to forget. Remember to bring any silverware, plates, glasses, or napkins that you may need, also bring a bag so that you can properly dispose of your trash and keep our parks clean.
Reading Material: Buy a great book too at a local bookstore
Two other things that you will want to consider is a blanket to stay away from the ants and bug spray so that you don’t have to do battle with mosquitos. Bringing sunscreen is also a great forward thinking idea, especially if you’re bringing kids.
