snowy mountain in AlaskaWhat does Denali mean?

Outside of the GMC brand, the word Denali actually does have a lot of meaning. Denali is a Native American word for high or tall, and it is generally used as a word for mountain. In fact, it was applied to one specific mountain located in Alaska which is the tallest land-based mountain on Earth with a vertical rise of 18,000 feet and a total elevation of 20,310 feet.

The mountain has changed names many times over its history. It was originally called Denali by the natives, but when the Russians took over they called it Bolshaya Gora. Shortly after it briefly held the name Densmore’s Mountain, and then it took the official name of Mount McKinley, though the locals still referred to it as Denali. The Denali name was recently restored to the mountain in 2015.

Is Denali a model or a trim level?

The Denali nameplate was first introduced in 1999 as a trim level for the GMC Yukon. Since then, it has always remained a name for GMC trim levels. Not only is it a trim level, but it’s the top trim level often representing the best that GMC has to offer. In a modern GMC Denali, you can expect a lot of technology and luxury, which says a lot as GMC is already a luxury brand for GM trucks and SUVs.
