What is the Chevy Traverse RS?

The Traverse is all-new for 2018, and that means a whole new set of surprises, including an exciting new trim called the RS. What is the Chevy Traverse RS? We have your answers right here. This may just be the sport model you’ve been waiting for.

The Traverse lineup comes with a 3.6-liter V6 engine standard. This powerplant can provide 310 horsepower and 266 pound-feet of torque. The Traverse RS however, offers the Traverse’s first turbocharged engine. It’s a sporty 2.0-liter engine with 255 horsepower but an astounding 295 pound-feet of torque, 90% of which is available under 2,100 rpm.

Much like its bigger brother, this engine offers variable valve timing and standard start-stop technology, but it’s the torque that should leave you impressed. Torque is the more reliable estimate for an engine’s performance. The higher the torque and the lower rpm that its available at, the faster you will get off the line.

Does the Traverse RS offer improved fuel economy?

A smaller engine complete with a turbocharger typically outperforms its rivals in the city, and that holds true for the Traverse RS. This sporty trim gives you 20 mpg in the city which is more than the other trims at 18 mpg.

It still provides you solid highway mpg at 26, which is only marginally lower than the standard 27-highway mpg for the Traverse. If you were looking for all-wheel drive numbers, that’s arguably the only shortcoming of the Traverse RS. It doesn’t have an all-wheel-drive version available for 2018.

The Traverse RS adds to the already unique style of the Traverse with some of its own exclusive flares. The Traverse RS has blacked-out features with the grille, window trim, roof rails, and even the Chevy bowtie emblem. The RS also rides on 20-inch aluminum wheels that feature a Dark Android finish.

Of course, the Traverse RS is still a Chevy, and that means it comes with a laundry list of amenities. You can enjoy your Traverse RS with technologies like tri-zone automatic climate control, Bose premium 10-speaker sound system, remote start, surround vision, 4G LTE with Wi-Fi hotspot, and more!
